The design of this Williamsburg whitework crewel pillow is interpreted from a lady’s drawstring bag that was made in America about 1830, and is now a part of the textile collection at Colonial Williamsburg. The antique is small in scale, and is embroidered with flat stitches, French knots, and bullion knots, and features the garland and circular medallion motif used for this interpretive design by Elsa Williams for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Credited to Marry Connor, the original artist stitched her name in the center of the medallion in the antique bag. Now you have the chance to create your own piece for history; You’ll work on creamy linen with matching toned wools; the results are worthy of any Colonial collector’s home!
