A young enchanter, dressed in robe and cloak, is seated on a tall wrought iron stool in his paraphrenalia-filled workroom. He speaks an incantation, raises his arms, and conjures the sparkling illusion of a fire-breathing dragon-bird perched on a vine-entwined fruit tree sprouting from the carpet-covered floor. A filigree border of architectural motifs and leafy vines accented with metallic cord and beads surrounds this richly detailed scene.
Teresa Wentzler writes of this design: "This piece was designed in response to numerous requests for a "wizard". Since I am an avid reader of fantasy, inspiration for this project was certainly not lacking! The challenge, of course, was to come up with something original: ideally something that was a synthesis of my favorite impressions from all that I’d read and/or seen. I chose to show a young wizard (mage), perhaps an apprentice, studying and practicing his art. Exactly why I decided to show this aspect instead of a grander portrait of a wizard in full regalia doing something appropriately fantastical I’m not sure. Perhaps it’s because I feel the process of "becoming" (growing in knowledge) is a journey that never truly ends.... "
The Enchanter is a challenging piece: large, color-complex, and very detailed, it will require a sizeable investment in organization and time. If you are a fantasy lover, and love a challenge, you should find stitching Enchanter a rewarding experience.
