Thousands of avid needleworkers have enjoyed working the charming and nostalgic designs of Carol and Don Henning. Many don't know that her favorite hobby was gardening, which was a source of peace, beauty and inspiration for their artwork. This is a picture of a corner of her garden; soft, cushiony alyssum edging the walk, fieldstones from everywhere, bright and ragged gaillardia (blanket flower), sprawling and spicy petunians, graceful and dainty coral bells and the lovely pale and fragrant nicotiana (jasmine tobacco). How fun to create a connection with the artist and the garden that served as inspiration for one of the most popular stitchery designers over the last several decades!
