18th century painter Francesco Guardi's famous painting entitled : "Blick von der Punta della Dogana in Richtung la Chiesa della Salute " is beautifully reproduced for the needlepoint artist in this long out of production needlepoint canvas. One of the most famous sights in Venice, this great domed church that dominates the mouth of the Grand Canal is seen from view of a gondolier. This elegant church, designed in 1630 by the great architect Baldassare Longhena features distinctive scroll-shaped buttresses, and is flanked on the left by the Seminario Patriarcale and on the right by the Abbazia di San Gregorio, at the end of the Grand Canal towards the Bacino di San Marco. Guardi's picturesque views of Venice for European tourists have become some of the most famous and definitive landmark depictions for those who love this great city.
